Red Star Foundation, the Social Corporate Responsibility arm of Red Star Express Plc, awarded nine scholars with scholarships as part of its Scholarship Scheme. This was done in a ceremony last week Thursday 30th November, 2017 at the Training Room in the Operations Hub, Old Ewu Road, Lagos. Mentors were also appointed to look after the scholars who received scholarships at the event.
In attendance at the event was Sola Obabori (Group Managing Director, Red Star Express Plc), Victor Ukwat (Executive Director, Sales and Marketing), Enoma Ojo (Divisional Managing Director, Red Star Support Services), Ocholi Etu (Divisional Managing Director, Red Star Logistics), and Tonye Preghafi (Divisional Managing Director, Red Star Freight & Chairman, Board of Trustees, Red Star Foundation). Parents, guardians, and staff of the schools of the awardees were also in attendance.
The students who received scholarships at the event were as follows: Okonofua Tomillola, Ochella Victoria and Lawal Suliat (Ikeja Senior Grammar School), Okoro Vivian and Ajigboteso Joseph (Mafoluku Senior Grammar School), Arilesere Modinat (Bolade Senior Grammar School) and Morakinyo Eniola, Adebayo Mark and Moses Olamide (Unity and High School).
Speaking at the event, Sola Obabori stated that education was a key focus area of the foundation that this was reflected in the Scholarship scheme. “The whole initiative of the Red Star Foundation in undertaking this task is to support the growth of education in the country. As an organisation we believe in improving the lives of those who cannot pay for high quality education” he stated.
In his remarks, Tonye Preghafi spoke on the appointment of mentors who will serve as guides for the scholars as they look to maintain a high level of educational excellence. “In order to improve the educational standards in the country, mentors have been selected to ensure the wards are well guided” he mentioned.
